Update on Miracle Mira and Her Nine Pups
Adoption Tales, Rescue Stories
Remember Miracle Mira and her 9 pups? Well, we have some exciting updates to share about Mira and her pups! Not only did the pups turn 6 months old recently, but mommy Mira found her forever home in the same week!
Earlier this year, our friends at Off The Chain were helping provide hay and dog houses to a property in Banks County in preparation for upcoming storms. When they realized the condition of one of the dogs, they stopped cold in their tracks. This momma dog was not only about to give birth outside in the cold, but she was also emaciated. The puppies were draining all of her nutrition, and nothing was left for her. She was starving to save her puppies. She needed help, so they networked to find a safe place for her to land. Luckily, Planned PEThood was able to step up thanks to our supporters.
Mira’s first night was scary. She was transported late at night to a new foster family, but she handled it with grace. She was so grateful to have a safe, dry, and warm place to rest and eventually give birth. After 16 hours (yes, you read that right), Mira delivered all of her babies. There were nine pups! NINE!
Mira’s pups stayed with the same foster for a while, gaining weight and most of them growing right on schedule. At around one month of age, one of the puppies, MJ, was still unable to walk. After multiple vet visits to specialists, it was found that she was born with a spinal deformity. She had been paralyzed since birth and would never gain control of her back legs. By that time, her foster family had already fallen in love and wanted MJ to have the best life possible, no matter how long it may be. She now visits an acupuncturist, a physical therapist, and is working on learning how to use a four-wheel cart. She may have a different life than her 8 siblings, but she loves the life she has!
Before we knew it, the rest of Mira’s pups were all ready to go home. After all her pups were adopted into amazing homes, many of them keep in contact and share updates as they grow. Mira moved to another foster home where she continued to get healthy and search for her forever home. But, as luck would have it, Mira had already found her forever home. After caring for Mira for several months, her new foster family decided she’d make the perfect addition to their family and adopted her! 10 dogs all have a wonderful life thanks to Off The Chain volunteers, foster families, and support from people like you!
