Two New White Papers – Animal Welfare in Gwinnett
Community Outreach, Feral and Community Cats
We’re excited to share two new white papers from Planned PEThood of Georgia, both focused on improving animal welfare in Gwinnett County. The papers exploreaffordable spay and neuter and community cat TNVR, highlighting the need for services and practical ways to expand them.
Here’s what the research tells us:
🐾 88,237 unaltered pets may need financial assistance to access spay and neuter services.
🐾 An estimated 14,000–28,000 community cats may still need TNVR.
🐾 Gwinnett County has six high-volume, low-cost spay/neuter providers that could help expand access to services.
The encouraging news is that we already have many of the resources we need. Veterinarians, nonprofits, volunteers, and community leaders are doing great work. By bringing everyone together, we can make an even bigger impact.
As CJ Bentley, CEO of Planned PEThood, shared:
“We believe Gwinnett County has an opportunity to rethink what animal welfare can look like. Instead of waiting for animals to enter shelters, we can invest upstream: in spay and neuter, TNVR, accessible veterinary care, education, and the people already working in our communities.”
Both papers were written by Marci Reynolds, our Director of Development and Marketing, who hopes they will spark new conversations and encourage collaboration.
As Marci explains:
“After more than a decade in animal welfare, one thing I know for certain is that no one organization can solve these challenges alone. We have so many passionate people, organizations, veterinarians, volunteers, and community leaders doing good work. The real opportunity is to stop working in silos, connect those efforts, and bring our resources together. That’s where the power of community comes in.”
The goal is simple: work together, expand access to services, and prevent animal suffering before it begins.
We’re proud to be helping move that conversation forward!
