Important Spay & Neuter Scheduling Information

Our spay and neuter clinic is still accepting appointments, but due to veterinary staffing challenges, availability is limited, and wait times may be a few months out for public/owned pets. We encourage you to check back regularly for newly opened appointment slots.

We understand how important timely spay and neuter services are for your pets. If your pet requires an urgent, life-threatening spay procedure, please reach out to a manager for assistance

Because many clinics are experiencing similar scheduling delays, we have compiled a list of other local spay and neuter providers for your convenience.
Thank you for your patience and support!

  • Female & Male

Pain medication and an Elizabethan collar (a cone-shaped device that prevents your dog from licking or scratching the surgical site) are included with all dog surgeries. While the collar is optional for cats, it’s highly recommended for their comfort and recovery.

A rabies vaccine will be administered to your pet for $15, unless you provide a valid rabies certificate or an itemized receipt before surgery. Please note that a rabies tag is not considered sufficient proof of vaccination.

Prices are subject to change.

If you need vaccines only, and not spay and neuter surgery,  please see our Duluth  Wellness Clinic’s  page  for pricing and to make an appointment.

*Due to the size limitations of our mobile unit, we are unable to accept dogs over 40 lbs.  If you are unsure whether your dog can be accommodated, please email FIDOinfo@pethoodga.org.

Additional Fees

All surgery appointments require a $35 deposit at the time of booking, which will be applied to your final bill. If you need to cancel or reschedule, you may do so up to three business days prior to your scheduled surgery to receive a refund. After that time, missed appointments will result in the deposit being converted into a donation.

Late fees apply for pets not picked up at the designated time provided at check-in. If you are unable to pick up at that time, please notify the team during check-in so alternate arrangements can be considered, including rescheduling your appointment. Overnight boarding is not available.

If an emergency delays your arrival, please remain in contact with our team to coordinate an alternative pickup time or location. The team departs shortly after the designated pickup time to return to our Duluth clinic and prepare for the next day’s surgeries.

Some pets may require additional treatment while in our care based on their condition at the time of surgery resulting in additional fees including but not limited to:

  • pyometra

  • pregnancy

  • being in heat

  • cryptorchid conditions

  • nausea or vomiting

  • the presence of parasites

Prices for these conditions vary and the team will communicate them to you as soon as possible.

Your Trusted Mobile Spay and Neuter Clinic in Georgia

“If I could give all the stars in the world, I would. My fur baby had Pyometra. This clinic saved her life. I will be forever thankful and grateful. The staff is excellent. I communicated with Anna and Jacqueline, they are amazing. I recommend this clinic to ANYONE!”

    – Tonya Newton

“This clinic does so much good for the community. Low cost spay and neuter is helpful when you move to a new house with a colony of a dozen or two feral cats. I’ve had 14 of my ferals fixed through planned PEThood and another stray dog we adopted. Thank you so much for all the work you all do on a daily basis. Georgia is in a better space today because of you all.”

    – Sarah Rees

“This is the absolute BEST vet clinic I have ever been to. If I could give them 100 stars I would. The staff is wonderful, kind, and a delight to be around. Each and every person I spoke with was super friendly. They go above and beyond to make sure your pet is taken care of, but the best part is you can tell they actually care. I would recommend this place to everyone I know that has pets.”

pre & post op instructions

What to Know Before and After Surgery

Following the pre- and post-operative instructions is critical to your pet’s recovery. If you have any questions or notice unusual changes in your pet’s condition after surgery, don’t hesitate to contact us. For emergencies outside of our clinic hours, please use the emergency contact information listed below.

Pre-Op Instructions:

  • Adult cats and dogs must be fasted before surgery. No food after midnight the night before surgery. Small amounts of water are fine.
  • Kittens and puppies younger than 16 weeks can have a small snack (1 tsp or less) before 6 a.m. the morning of surgery, with very small amounts of water.
  • Walk dogs as usual on the morning of surgery.
  • Leave dogs in the car when you check in at Planned PEThood.
  • Cats must be in a secure carrier or trap upon arrival. One cat per carrier. If you don’t have one, we offer cardboard carriers for $10 (for owned cats only).

Post-Op Instructions:

  • Keep your pet calm. No running, jumping, playing, or other strenuous activity for 7 to 10 days.
  • Pets must remain indoors to stay clean, dry, and warm. No baths during the recovery period. Dogs must be walked on a leash; cats should stay indoors.
  • Feed your pet a half portion of their regular meal the evening after surgery. Return to normal feeding portions the next day.
  • Check the incision site twice daily for any signs of drainage or significant redness/swelling. Don’t let your pet lick or chew the incision. We strongly recommend using an Elizabethan collar (cone) to prevent this.
  • A tattoo near the incision is not an additional cut—it’s simply a small mark to indicate your pet has been spayed or neutered. Skin glue may appear purple or brown.
  • If your pet’s appetite doesn’t return within 24 hours or they show signs of lethargy, diarrhea, or vomiting, contact your regular veterinarian immediately.
  • Avoid giving your pet junk food, table scraps, or milk during recovery, as it could mask complications.
  • We recommend scheduling a post-op exam with your regular veterinarian within 7 to 10 days to check the incision and discuss follow-up care.

Additional Guidelines:

  • Dogs in heat: Keep separated from unneutered males for 30 days post-surgery.
  • Cats: Use pellet-type litter (such as Feline Pine) or shredded paper for 4 days after surgery.
  • Community Cats (feral cats and friendly strays): Hold males for at least 24 hours and females for 72 hours before releasing them.

After-Hours Emergencies:

Please contact your full service veterinarian or local emergency clinic for any after hours emergencies.
If you do not have a full service veterinarian or do not know of a local emergency clinic, please contact:

Planned PEThood cannot be held responsible for complications that result from failing to follow post-op instructions or for contagious diseases that were not previously vaccinated against. We will treat post-op complications directly related to surgery at minimal cost if the above instructions are followed. Any other illnesses or injuries should be addressed by your regular veterinarian.
