Saving 4 Kittens Named Billy — A Heartwarming Rescue at Berkmar High
Rescue Stories, Success Stories
It was just another busy day at Berkmar High School when a group of film class students spotted four tiny figures scurrying near a high-traffic area. As they got closer, they heard soft, desperate mews — four fragile kittens, alone and terrified, with no mother in sight.
Fearing for their safety, the students gently scooped them up and placed them in a box to keep them safe. One of their teachers, a passionate supporter of Planned PEThood, quickly reached out for help. Of course, we couldn’t say no.
When the kittens arrived at our foster program, they were in rough shape — barely 4 to 5 weeks old, suffering from severe respiratory issues, and their tiny eyes crusted shut. But these babies were fighters. After receiving top-notch care from our medical team, they started to heal and regain their strength.
The teacher who reached out had a special request — could we name the male kitten Billy, in honor of her late father? We were touched and decided to take it a step further, naming the entire litter after him: Billy, Billeah, Billie, and Billey. A beautiful tribute to a life well lived — and a new beginning for these sweet souls.
Thanks to the quick thinking of those high schoolers, the caring outreach of their teacher, and the dedication of our fosters and medical team, these kittens now have a bright future ahead. Soon, they’ll be ready to find their forever homes.
