We have amazing news to share. And of course we thought, who better to share it with than you – our incredible supporters.

Planned PEThood has SO MUCH to be thankful for! We work in amazing communities, have compassionate supporters – like you! – generous partners, and we get to see the positive impact we make in the lives of animals every single day. Recently, 11Alive News featured an article featuring Planned PEThood and the increasing cost of veterinary care In Georgia

And now, despite a nationwide, critical shortage of veterinary professionals, Planned PEThood was able to add TWO talented doctors to our team. These veterinary professionals chose to join Planned PEThood because of the mission-based work we do and the dedicated team we have.

Dr. Dowdy and Dr. Joncas, both experienced veterinarians, are committed to providing the very best veterinary care to our clients and their beloved pets. Dr. Joncas has taken the lead in our Healthy Pet/Wellness clinic while Dr. Dowdy is supporting our Shelter Medicine/County team, to include Gwinnett, Barrow and Newton.

We are so thrilled to have them!

The future is looking bright with your support and their talents, the opportunities are endless.

As for what’s next? We hope to announce the addition of an experienced spay/neuter doctor to our team. Once we have that critical role filled, we will be full speed ahead with an increased capacity for spay/neuter and TNVR! These specialized surgeons are incredibly hard to find, and we’re working hard to locate one. When we do, you’ll be among the first to know!

Dr. Claire Dowdy spent much of her career with the USDA where she facilitated the importation of live animals into the country. She is a graduate of the University of Georgia and has worked a number of vaccine and wellness clinics for felines and canines.

“I am excited to be a part of Planned PEThood’s future and watch us grow our capabilities to provide the community access to high quality veterinary care through our wellness clinic, spay/neuter clinic, and outreach events. I look forward to helping keep pets in their homes and out of shelters!”

Dr. Macie Joncas grew up in Gwinnett County and has been working in veterinary medicine since 2012. A graduate of Berry College with a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and minors in Chemistry and French, Dr. Joncas attended Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 2022. She’s been working as an associate veterinarian in small animal general practice since graduation. Most of her free time is spent fostering neonatal kittens and doing photography while also enjoying her 3 feline children – Possum, Mozzarella, and Dash.

“Shelter medicine and client education are some of my passions, and I am so excited to be part of an organization that allows me to provide a service to the community while expanding on these.”
