Meet Applesauce! She’s had a rough few months but she’s now on the road to recovery.

Applesauce was found on the road with several serious injuries after most likely being struck by a car. Luckily, she found herself in a shelter that would search for a rescue organization to save her. Injured and in need of serious medical care, more care than the county shelter could provide, Planned PEThood was able to step in and help. At Planned PEThood, we focus our rescue efforts on medically fragile cases from shelters, like Applesauce.

Applesauce visited an orthopedic specialist, where she received some alarming news. Her x-rays showed a broken femoral neck, 3 separate fractures of her pelvis, and multiple fractures in her tail. Poor Applesauce was facing a long road to recovery but thankfully she has had the dedicated help of her foster family.

Applesauce had orthopedic surgery to correct her broken hip and fractured pelvis. After two weeks of cage rest, she was doing amazing and ready for her next two surgeries. Applesauce came into our Spay & Neuter Clinic for her spay surgery and tail amputation. Her tail had been crushed when she was hit by a car. Half of it had already fallen off on its own so the ‘dead’ remnant of her broken tail was removed.

While recovering, Applesauce has grown to love bird and squirrel watching from the screened-in porch at her foster home and cuddling in any lap she can find. She has lots of follow-up care and appointments, but her foster mommy is in it for the long haul.

As if her injuries weren’t bad enough, Applesauce also tested positive for Feline Leukemia (FeLV). Feline Leukemia (FeLV) research has changed drastically over the past few years, and after additional testing, it was confirmed that she was negative for the disease. YAY!

We were only able to help Applesauce because of supporters like you and programs like Orphan Kitten Club . Thanks to a special grant from OKC and Kitten Lady , we were able to afford her extensive medical care. Orphan Kitten Club aims to help the most fragile kittens in shelters across the country have a chance at happy and healthy lives.

Applesauce will have her next checkup at the end of July and should be available for adoption in mid-August. If you’re interested in adopting Applesauce, please email adoption@PEThoodGA.org. We can’t wait to share another update when she eventually goes home!
