228 Pets, One Great Day of Prevention in Northeast Georgia! 🐾
Community Outreach, Local Events
On Saturday, September 19, 2026 the Planned PEThood team hit the road and brought free preventive veterinary care to 228 pets in Northeast Georgia!
Our community vaccine clinic at Pittard Park in Winterville welcomed pet owners from Athens-Clarke, Madison, Oglethorpe, and surrounding counties. And because no county identification was required, anyone who needed a little help keeping their pet healthy could take advantage of the services.
By the end of the day, we had provided free care to 166 dogs and 62 cats. Services included:
- 1-year rabies vaccinations
- Distemper/Parvo vaccines for dogs
- FVRCP vaccines for cats
- Microchips
- Flea and tick prevention
That’s 228 pets receiving important preventive care, before a health concern becomes a crisis.
Our Community Outreach Program is prevention in action. By taking veterinary services directly into communities, we can reach people who may face financial, transportation, or geographic barriers to getting their pets to a traditional veterinary clinic. Helping dogs and cats get the care they need today can help keep them healthy, happy, and safely at home tomorrow.
And we couldn’t do it without our amazing supporters, staff and volunteers. The event sponsors, Georgia Lighting and individual donor Faith Pescatore, helped make this clinic possible, allowing us to provide these services completely free to participating pet owners.
We’re proud of the team that made this event happen and grateful for the opportunity to bring Planned PEThood’s prevention-first approach beyond our clinic walls and directly into Northeast Georgia communities.
228 pets. 228 opportunities to prevent suffering before it begins. And one more great example of why rescue starts before the shelter. ❤️🐾
